Some pictures of a collection paradise! Many pines ready to be bonsai, all I need to do is climb the hill.

Here are pictures of some of the bonsai worked on today with Mitch and Doug.

Before and after of a couple repots I did today. I made the pots myself, I really like being able to make a pot especially for a specific tree.

A few bonsai pots I made recently, all fired to cone 6 in an electric kiln

Her are some pots that were wood fired to cone 10 , the white pots have a small bit of shino glaze on the rims. The others are decorated with cobalt oxide and salt glazed. I will have more pots soon and hope to have them listed on the catalogue page so please check back.

We had nice weather today so I worked on my trees a bit. I refined an old juniper and wired another San Jose juniper and also built another display stand, you can never have too many it seems.

Collected juniper age unknown, in my collection for 15 years and ready for a trim!

30 year old collected juniper

I collected this crab apple as a seedling in 1995 and planted it over this rock(really a piece of concrete) and planted it in a pot for 5 years then into the field for 2 years finally back into this pot.

Here is the collected juniper Roy Nagatoshi worked on in 2006 with a possible new front.

Some really nice rough stock. These are 3 of about 25 dwarf norway spruce newly arrived at new world. Most have been planted in the field to grow on.

Here are a few pictures of some of the hundreds of plants that have arrived this spring at the nursery. There are 12 of these nice dwarf spruce available as of 4-11. About half are styled and the rest are untouched. It takes some effort but these trees are alot of fun to work on, all have fat trunks 1″ and up.

This shot shows some of the newly potted seedlings. Everything from acer to zelkova and some very nice american beech ready for forest planting.

NEW BONSAI STOCK!

New World has many new plants ready for purchase. From dozens of collected boxwood and Taxus to hundreds of chinese elm, bald cypress and american beech suitable for forest plantings , root over rock or single tree styles. These seedlings are 2 to 5 years old and from 6 inches to 3 feet tall.

A 150 YEAR OLD KOREAN HORNBEAM REPOTTED.

These pictures show the repotting of an old hornbeam that was given to me as a gift.

The tree has been neglected and one whole leader is dead and ridden with fungus so it was removed.( 2nd picture) After that the root ball was inspected and worked on . The old dead roots were removed and , happily, there were many new, healthy roots .

After about 2 hours of work the tree is ready for a training pot, a 20 inch dish.

Next season the tree will be pruned and styled. I will air layer the tree to create a new tree with the top 1/3 of the tree and then reduce the remaining tree by about half.

I am very pleased with this newly potted barberry, in part because it is a nice plant but even more so because the pot is one I made and fired in Maplecreek’s wood kiln last fall.

The pot is unglazed white high fire clay about 9 inches in dia. The colors on the pot are very subtle and are the result of all the wood ash from the fire. The firing took 48 hours and reached cone11! Again,I am very happy with this bonsai.

These 2 are of the Hawthorn Jason picked out. Next is a cool juniper that Jeff has a great plan for, I cant wait to see the results!

I just got photos of a nice little Chinese elm- Ulmus Parvifoilia- that was sold in an auction last year.I would really like to thank doug for taking the time to share these pictures
